“I don’t like sales.”
You have really good reasons not to
And the most obvious one is usually missed…
It doesn’t feel good! And people don’t like doing things that don’t feel good. In fact, they’ll go to great lengths to avoid doing things that don’t feel good.
The technical term for this is cognitive dissonance – you’d never want to do things that go against who you are and what you value as a human being.
It’s totally reasonable.
These negative associations with selling are based both in reality – there are some really shitty sales practices out there – and they’re informed by fabrications by the media or movies.
To complicate this, many need to sell for their business, consulting, entrepreneurial endeavors…etc
What to do?
The good news is that is only requires one mental shift.
To be fair, it’s a big shift so it may not be for you right now (and that’s okay)
In order to feel good about selling, the first mental shift required is that…
Selling is helping
- It’s helping people find, prioritize, and solve problems
- It’s helping people get to where they want to go
- It’s an act of both leadership & service
If the above resonates with you, you’ll do just fine making the mental shift.
It may take some time to get the garbage out of your head.
And to learn some news non-salesy approaches
But you’ll be on your way
Promise!
