The lead character in the play was in tears. She couldn’t perform for several minutes. She literally couldn’t go on stage. Without missing a beat, my daughter and her friend jumped into improv mode, and wowed the audience for 5 minutes.
Why am I telling you this?
Sure – my daughter is awesome – proud dad!
But the other reason is rarely talked about in sales – sales role play rules
My favorite rule is that when you’re in role play – STAY IN ROLE PLAY
- Don’t laugh
- Or giggle
- Or say sorry
- Or step out of character
Instead – work through the awkwardness. Awkwardness happens in real sales conversations, and the show must go on!
Role plays are a powerful tool to practice sales skills if you stay in character – and that’s what will make you more prepared for the real thing.
I hope this helps!
