Selling On LinkedIn

LinkedIn is no joke if you want to sell. Done right, and without a ton of effort, it will drive leads. But most don’t go about it the right way.

Here’s the top 10 mistakes I see on LI if you’re in sales:

  1. Going straight for the sale in ALL your posts
  2. Connect & pitch – ugh!
  3. You don’t add value in your posts and your inconsistent
  4. Your tagline is about how awesome you are and not how you serve others
  5. It’s unclear the problem you solve for people (your banner isn’t helping)
  6. Your headshot from your friend’s wedding reception won’t cut it
  7. Your unsmiling face…is….let me put this gently…not helping you
  8. Pretending like you’re a world-class speaker in your banner photo isn’t fooling anyone
  9. Your about section is “about you” and not how you help people
  10. Your featured section is underutilized and not tied to how you help people

****

But why does this matter?

Well…if you want to sell on LinkedIn, it can’t be about you. It’s not a MySpace page. It’s a business network. And in business networks, if you’re in sales, it’s about helping people solve their problem.

Here’s the good news. The above are all easy fixes. Makes some changes and watch what happens over time.

  • You’ll inspire confidence & trust
  • Others will promote your content for you
  • You will have people reaching out to you for help

I’m sure I missed something. So add your thoughts in the comments.

I hope this helps.
