My 16-year-old daughter delivered 8 puppies for a professional breeder.
She wasn’t supposed to. The dog was supposed to go to the vet.
This was a high-value, high-risk puppy pregnancy.
Why did the breeder let my daughter take on that responsibility?
- Confidence – my daughter was confident she could do it (even though she had never done it)
- Experience – she’s had her own pet care business for 5 years, is well-read, and is at one with animals
- She asked – Would you be okay with me delivering the puppies, or should we take her to the vet?
Confidence – When working with your prospects, having confidence that you can help them solve their problem is key. Confidence is not excitement. It’s a calm-assertive, non-anxious presence.
Experience – Your experience can comes from all different places – even if it’s not direct experience. In fact, perhaps your new take on things is just what your prospect needs.
Ask – Always ask, but provide freedom of choice – “Would you like to move forward, or should we put this aside?”
I hope this helps!
