My daughter asked me to teach her to play the guitar recently.
She has no idea of three things:
- The guitar I’ve given her to play is too big for her body
- The neck is too wide for her hands
- The string weight is too heavy for her fingertips
She didn’t complain about any of that.
Why?
I was helping her get to her goal – learning to play guitar.
That’s what mattered. In a very short period of time she has learned to:
- Hold the guitar well
- Learn several basic chords
- Discover several strumming patterns
These are HUGE wins!
If you’re like me, you may like things to be “just right.”
But things rarely are.
Chasing perfection (especially in sales & consulting) will hurt you. You will undermine your services because you know conditions aren’t “perfect.” This will come across in some way shape or form and it will create doubt.
However, if you’re helping your prospect get to where they want to go, do a few bumps matter?
Improve and iterate as you go.
