My mom just celebrated her 75th birthday. I had a chance to ask her about her sales career and what made her so successful.
First the stats – she was the number one agent at a real estate agency for five years. And for twenty-six years she was the number one, two, or three sales person in a major furniture store.
That’s thirty-one consecutive years of president’s club!
Over three decades!
How’d she do it while raising three rambunctious boys? How she stay so consistent through the ups and downs of the economy – through commission changes, boss changes, life changes…
She gave me three answers:
- “I think it was the fact that my mom screamed at me all the time. I learned to read people really fast. I could tell if things were moving in the wrong direction and quickly course correct.”
- “I prayed everyday on the way to work” ‘Oh God, I put this day in your hands.'”
- “I didn’t ‘sell.’ I helped people get what they want.”
There you have it!
