I call this one the “Just Curious” play…
Let’s review – then fix.
Sounds like this:
May 2: “Hey Ted, I see you are also a business owner and I’d love to have you in my network. Just curious, how long have you been in the business? :)”
Some red flags:
- “just curious”
- intrusive ask
I connected to see where this would go…
May 6: “Thank you for connecting with me Ted. We are actually both business owners, and I wanna see how we can help each other in this space. What is your vision for your business this year?”
More red flags:
- Thanking to connect = subservient
- Insincere ask to help each other
- Personal ask about my vision
May 9: “Hey Ted seems you are busy. I’ve helped 1000+ online business owners transition from being operators who are stuck wearing all of the hats in the business to owners who are profitably growing their businesses by delegating all key roles and systems. Was just curious if you may be interested to learn more about this? Side note ~ If you don’t produce a positive return on investment while working with us, then you don’t pay!”
Lots of red flags:
- Assumption that I’m busy and that I’m stuck
- Focus on him, his success, over-promising
- Just curious – you’re not – you “want to talk”
- Went to money and then eliminated his value
Okay – let’s see if we can fix this in one connection request:
Hi Ted, I don’t want to assume your situation, so I’m trying to get the word out about a different way for business owners to potentially free up bandwidth and scale their business. Worth a chat? Worst case, we part as friends and expand our networks. Thanks, Ted
